Introduction

The Seat Leon has a reasonable head unit from stock, and many people are keen to keep it for the stock look along with it's functionality. There's no reason why you shouldn't change the 25watt speakers though. The tutorial below takes you through the process, tips and tricks we discovered along the way and should save you a good deal of time when you come to do yours.

Quick index:

Getting what you need

There are various packs available from us (lised above) which contain everything you need to do your upgrade. As we sell complete packs we are confident the combined price is unbeatable.

Fitting

Seat Leon Door Speaker

Upgrading the 4 speakers in the leon is a relatively easy process. Using the correct tools saves time, scratches and makes the job more enjoyable.

We are going to keep the tweeters as they are, and change the main drivers in the base of each door. The Autoleads adaptor allows the tweeter to work as normal, and allows the aftermarket speaker to be plugged in correctly without cutting any wires - crucial if you want to put the stock speakers in and reclaiming the upgrade speakers before selling the car.

Using the Bojo tool to prise off the GrillExposed factory fitted speaker

To get access to the speaker, all you need to do is remove the grill. Use the Bojo tool to prise the grill up slightly.

Once you've got an idea of where the 4 anchor points are, move the tool next to them to pop them out. They'll go back in exactly as they were originally and using a Bojo trim removal tool will prevent any scratches to the door card in case of any slips!

Unscrew the torx screwsPinch here and pull the loom out to release the speaker wire

Now you can get to the speaker, unscrew the 4 Torx screws holding the speaker in place.

Once these have been taken out you can tilt the speaker out of the door card. Squeeze the speaker wire clip from each side and pull the connector out of the speaker. The bottom picture shows the places you need to pinch to do this.

Please note: Do not saw anything in your Leon - the speaker adaptors are the things that need modifying, not your door cards!

Lay the speakers out on a suitable work benchHave a look at the cutting guide - the orange area is the piece to be cut out - the piece the pointer should not be cut out.

Because of the Leon's similarity to the Golf, Autoleads do not do a specific speaker adaptor for a Leon - it's a small price to pay for a more stylish (Contraversial I know!) model of Golf.

Take your time through this part, making sure you cut away enough of the plastic so each speaker adapter fits comfortably in the door recess.

We used a metal saw to cut the plastic, but any hacksaw with a small teeth will do the job fine.

Lay the speakers out on a suitable work bench. Cut out the area highlighted in orange in the second picture making sure you don't cut out the gap at the top shown by the arrow.

Begin cutting carefully paying attention to how the cut is going. Our rough cut outs finished! We sanded and tidied ours up before final fitting.

Cut slowly looking regularly at how it's shaping up. This part's a bit boring I know but it's worth it in the end!

Once you think you've cut enough out, have a trial fit in the door and check it's a good fit.

Once the 4 speaker rings are cut out, be sure to sand down the rough edges before final fitting being careful not to cut yourself as the edges will be sharp.

The speaker wire is intended to pass through this gapPlug the terminals in the wiring kit to the speaker matching + to + and - to -

The speaker adaptors are shipped with speaker wire adaptors. They convert the original wiring to fit a standard speaker's connectors.

The wires on this harness are supposed to fit through the gap you didn't (I hope!) cut out.

The terminals of the speaker adaptors should then be fastened to the speaker's terminals.

Screw the speaker to the speaker adaptor

The speaker can now be test fitted into the speaker adaptor. The point of this step is to make sure the wires from the speaker flow smoothly out of the cut out to prevent kinks and problems in future.

It's well worth wrapping the speaker cable socket in tape and sticking it to the door card (Not the speaker adaptor) to stop it from rattling on the speaker adaptor when driving through vibration.

Screw the speaker to the speaker adaptorConnect the speaker cable to the Leon's speaker cable and screw the speaker into the speaker adaptor

Screw the speaker adaptor into the door card using the torx screws removed earlier.

Once this is done, connect the speaker cable to the Leon's speaker cable and screw the speaker into the adaptor using the screws provided in this kit.

Pop the speaker grill back in place. Job done - time for a long test and enjoy!!!The completed article - well done for a great job!!!

Demon Audio have this upgrade pack at good stock levels and ready to be shipped usually same day

The overall sound is richer with the aftermarket speakers in place. The existing speakers were ok but not great - I noticed a difference particularly with the bass. The tweeters in the doors are unaffected with this upgrade and still work as normal.

The hardest part of this tutorial is the cutting, but take your time and you can't go wrong.

If you do the DIY way you should save some money and do a better job than the average garage if you take your time.

Good luck!
